I came to this city looking for the kind of fresh start people are always chasing but rarely seem to find. I was raised to believe that working hard, keeping my head down, and treating people fairly would eventually earn me a comfortable life. As I got older, though, I started to notice that honest people often seemed to be the ones getting ignored, underpaid, and pushed around. I’ve come here intending to find legitimate work and build a stable future, but I carry a growing jealousy toward people who already have everything I want: money, influence, women, friends, and the right connections.
I’ve spent years trying to improve my charisma, and I finally feel prepared to throw myself into the gnashing maw of the big city and its dangerous nightlife, whatever form that ends up taking. Romance, manipulation, drugs, guns, rubbing shoulders with influential people, I want to experience all of it. At the same time, I want a chance to land a stab;e job and really put my people skills to the test where the rubber meets the road. I’m hungry for something more, and once that train starts moving, I’m not sure there will be any stopping it until I either get where I’m going or crash.
More than anything, I want to become someone people cannot overlook. Power is attractive to me because it seems like the best way to guarantee that I will always have a place in the room. My biggest fear is being left behind, being the third wheel, or the one people quietly look down on. That being said, I do not chase acceptance blindly. I am analytical about the people I approach and am careful about which relationships are worth pursuing. I pay attention to what people want, if they're woth investing time into, and whether there is a place for me among them. When a relationship is showing too many red flags, or I fear I am being maniuplated or patronized, I would rather step back and act unaffected than embarrass myself by forcing it. I protect my dignity by remaining nonchalant, even when rejection or exclusion bothers me more than I let anyone see. Inside, I hope that that fear makes me strategic, when in reality, it may make me needy. This is the reality of my personality that I grapple with behind closed doors.
