Mickey Mercer was born to George and Helen Mercer. Sadly during his birth, Helen passed away leaving Mickey to be raised solely by his father George. As a kid, Mickey had a rather normal childhood, however when Mickey turned 12, he had learned what it was his father did for their income.
George had resorted to a life of crime to support himself and his son. He had joined a small crew called The Iron Serpents. They did mainly petty crime and consisted of only five members. George was still rather new to the group and did most of the hacking thanks to his experience with computers compared to everyone else.
Mickey had stumbled upon his father coming home one night with an open bag of rolled bills, and the young Mickey had been smart enough to know those bills were definitely not legally gained. After attending High School for a year and still keeping his Dad’s secret, Mickey had become part of the Iron Serpents.
He came home one day to his Dad intoxicated slurring his words. Turns out their getaway driver had been caught in another heist and was currently waiting for his sentence in jail. Mickey, having no interest in school and knowing his father worked hard, offered to help. George at first disagreed, but Mickey made a deal with him. “Just one get away,” Mickey had said, “We won’t get caught Dad, you can trust me.”
Secretly Mickey had been learning how to drive through an online game, and he learned that he was rather good at it. A few weekends ago, he even got behind the wheel of his Dad’s car and practiced driving in real life, deciding to sneak out every night to practice for this very moment. George had a feeling his son had been driving his car considering the mileage in his car had gone up even though he knew Mickey took caution to not get caught, so they agreed.
Mickey’s first store robbery was at the age of 15, as the getaway driver. George was impressed with his son’s abilities as well as the other three members. So, Mickey was the designated get away driver for the Iron Serpents for the next three years, until a Bank Robbery went wrong.
The Iron Serpents were never ones to shoot to get away. It was one of the things they relied on the getaway driver for. However, Mickey had begged to be more than just a driver in this robbery. This bank was going to be a big score for Mickey. George had fallen ill recently and was on the brink of being hospitalized. If that were the case, Mickey knew they wouldn’t be able to afford the hospital bills.
With all this in mind, the stress was relevant to Mickey and it showed as the cops decided they were going to breach the teen. All Mickey saw was red, as the three cops who had shown up were killed by Mickey. Mickey, who was still in a blood lust hadn’t realized what he did until an innocent Bank Teller tried to use the confusion to run, but Mickey saw them as a cop, also shooting and killing the teller.
It was the sound of an Iron Serpent cursing and two hands forcing the gun out of Mickey’s hand as the teen realized what he did. Upon getting away and returning home after being shouted at by the crew, Mickey was shocked to see his father out of bed and waiting for him at the dinner table.
Things were tense and George was not happy about what Mickey did. However he knew the stress was eating Mickey about his health and had decided it was time to send Mickey away and save what future he could have left.
“There are security cameras Mickey…” His father began. Mickey only uttered out a “So?” which enraged his father. “So?! They will come and arrest you once they put the pieces together. We can only do so much, but I think it is time for you to go.”
“Go?” Mickey asked. “Go where? I can’t just leave you,”
“You can and you will… I registered you for the Army a while ago… and they have finally called for you to come in.” George had planned to ship Mickey off for a while. However, today was the final straw. George was going to see if Mickey would be okay, if maybe the stress wasn’t getting to him enough to kill… but it was too late. As much as it pained George it was time for Mickey to go.
Mickey managed to escape the heat of the death of four innocent people, and spent the next four years of his life in the army, his best cover story that freed him from any guilt. While he was gone… His father had gotten better, but never wrote to Mickey. It seemed they had cut him off.
Even when it was time for Mickey to return home. He didn’t… Instead Mickey decided he was going to live his life in various cities making a name for himself. Starting at the Top Shelf all the way to Zeno, yet he had some unfinished business landing himself in Los Santos, where he continued to look for a place to call home and find his new found family. Losing contact with The Iron Serpents and his father.
