IC Messages & You!

Messages outside of the live server can be a useful tool to aid in RP; however, when done improperly, it can lead to a slippery slope of potential metagaming. It’s important to separate IC versus OOC.

Below, we have put together some steps and expectations when it comes to IC Messages outside of the live server. This includes Discord Servers outside of the NDRP Faction Discord (such as gang servers, businesses, etc).

Discord voice calls can never be used for in-character use

Forum Communications
The NDRP website is a useful tool that can be used to send email correspondences between multiple people. This should be your primary method of sending IC messages outside the live server. Direct Messages on the forums can easily be determined IC or OOC, and some areas of the forums can be as well.

IC Forum Sections:

  • Government of San Andreas
    • Everything in this section can be considered IC. Additionally, it is all considered Public information unless otherwise noted.
    • Including but not limited to Judicial Filings, FOIA requests, DoCL Information, SAFA Information
  • Direct Forum Messages
    • Direct forum messages on the forums can easily be assumed IC or OOC based on their formatting and the message content.

Discord Communications
You are welcome to use Discord for emails. However, they need to be formatted as proper emails. You should not have “instant messaging” channels between people. The intent of Discord is not to be a roleplay platform but to facilitate things that can’t be done in RP.

Examples of acceptable things to use Discord for:

  • Storing evidence and case/client files or notes
  • Writing proper emails
  • Polling or scheduling to determine a meeting time etc
  • Bulletin board / IC announcement threads

Businesses and social clubs are welcome to have discords. However, they still need to follow this guideline being formatted IC.

Communication should be had in the live server first, through meeting people in person, text messages, or phone calls. While Discord is a convenient tool due to its accessibility and ability to respond quickly, it is not a replacement for roleplay. If you have any questions about proper email formatting or what can be considered IC reach out via Support on the NDRP Discord!
