Hello all,

Players now have the opportunity to acquire prosthetics if events in roleplay have led up to the need for your character to use a prosthetic. The process to have access to prosthetics will be an extensive one, requiring the proper roleplay and build up to your character being allowed to use these items. In order to gain access to the prosthetic arms for use on your character, you MUST cooperate with medical staff through roleplay means.

Considerations

Firstly, the need for a prosthetic will only be considered if your character has experienced a severe enough injury where the only option moving forward is either partial or full amputation. This decision should not come lightly in roleplay, and should be considered a PERMANENT alteration to your character. If your character moves forward with the decision for prosthetics, there will be a significant amount of buildup roleplay before your character actually obtains their prosthetic arm to wear.

The Process

Upon making the decision to use a prosthetic, you’ll need to schedule multiple appointments with a doctor. During these appointments, doctors will go through the roleplay with you of inspecting the affected limb, sizing the prosthetic itself, fitting the prosthetic to your character, and going through physical therapy to get used to using the prosthetic. This process will take time, and will not happen overnight.

Once you’ve gone through the preparation and process of obtaining your prosthetic, you will be expected to continue checkup appointments with doctors to check on your progress, and to perform maintenance on the prosthetic periodically.

Guidance around usage of prosthetics

If you are allowlisted for prosthetic parts, you may not take the items off and give them to other players, as they will not work. Once you’ve made the decision to use prosthetics, you cannot retroactively change back to a “normal” arm unless there is a SIGNIFICANT reason, backed in roleplay, and approved by medical staff.

The opportunity to use prosthetics should not be taken lightly, and the process should be treated with respect. There is a lot of significant medical roleplay to be had with this new feature, as long as the roleplay is respected and done properly. Characters should not be seeking out voluntary elective surgery to remove their limbs for prosthetics, and players who are found to be doing as such will be prohibited from using prosthetics on any character.

Keep in mind that there are also mechanical limitations to using prosthetics: there will be a lot of clothing (base game and custom) that will no longer fit your character properly due to clipping. Scars and tattoos will still work properly on skin, but chest hair might have issues showing up properly. There will also be noticeable seams in the skin texture on some parts of the torso.

For those who already utilise a prosthetic(s)

Those who are already utilizing the existing prosthetic arms on their characters will be required to schedule an appointment with medical staff to check in, and receive an evaluation and resizing for the new prosthetic items being implemented. Failure to do so will lead to your character not having access to the new prosthetic items, as the roleplay process is the requirement for being allowlisted to use them.

Types of prosthetics

Linked below are the different types of prosthetic you may obtain. There are plenty of options ranging from hand, hand and forearm and full arm prosthetics, to cater to different injuries.

As we roll out this feature to enhance medical roleplay and give characters the opportunity to extend roleplay for their significant life events, please remember that this is an allowlisted opportunity. Prosthetics should not be treated as “toys”, and should not be used for vanity, or the sake of “looking cool”. Failure to abide by the guidelines laid out for prosthetics will lead to you, as the player, being prohibited from using prosthetics in the future on any character. You may also be subject to warning points.

Thank you!
