While we normally do not publicly address situations like these, it has come to our attention that lies are being spread about the reform of the Department of Commerce and Labor (DoCL).
I want to start by acknowledging the work that DoCL has done for the community. Managing the business aspects of a roleplay community is a challenging job, and I want to be clear that not everything in this post is applicable to all members (current or previous) of DoCL.
As many of you are now aware, many members of DoCL are no longer with the department and it is currently undergoing a rebuilding. It’s come to our attention that former members of DoCL are spreading rumours that we disbanded DoCL. This is simply not true.
Over the past several months we have tried to work with DoCL to resolve some issues that had cropped up with them. In recent weeks, we had become aware of a conversation that took place between senior DoCL members and displayed a clear bias towards certain groups of role players, leading to those groups being disadvantaged by DoCL. We also became aware of a senior DoCL member using extremely inappropriate names to describe these groups.
We confronted senior DoCL members about this in a ticket on September 29th. We were immediately met with lies and obfuscation from one senior DoCL member. While we were searching for an amicable discussion and to create a pathway forward, being immediately met with this was not acceptable. We gave this member multiple opportunities to be honest to no avail, and the member was removed from DoCL. One other senior member of DoCL was also removed at this time. While we were prepared to find a pathway forward with the others and made this clear, many of them chose to resign.
Upon their resignation, at least one senior DoCL member deleted (rather removed access to) all files and records for businesses. Another deleted all map blips on the business map. I want to be clear that the some of the work that was deleted (for example, the business map) was not only that of the people who resigned, but was either started by or mostly done by others who have remained in DoCL throughout this process. Deleting files and destroying the business listing map does nothing but hurt the business community they claimed to care about.
Ultimately, DoCL must be held to a high standard of integrity and fairness in order to manage such an integral part of this community. We appreciate your patience as we rebuild DoCL to be better and more fair than it was before. If anyone has any questions, they can be asked in a #support ticket.
