From NewDay Management:

It’s already time for another newsletter, which will include our first Q&A section below. If you’d like to add your question for the next newsletter, you can access it here. While your forum account will be noted for tracking and follow up opportunities, your questions will be presented anonymously as below.

We are aware that there are areas of the server and the community where things are getting increasingly toxic and in the case of roleplay, low quality. The Admin+ team is working on this, both in individual tickets and PRs as well as discussions for overarching changes we can make to maintain and improve the quality of roleplay. This has been challenging for us to handle as it comes through sometimes, and that slow response increases frustration directed at staff and management. We get it, we don’t have an easy solution, but at points the culture of making sure we stay accountable and moving becomes counterproductive and it’s difficult to dedicate the amount of energy to as many different fires as we are dealing with. At NDRP we have rarely “stream policed” or policed things outside of our official forums, server, etc, but know that stuff does get back to us. There is a difference between being a concerned member of the community and spreading toxicity.

One announcement we have on big changes coming - next month our police forces will combine into the San Andreas State Police. Our LEO Command team has been working hard to make the transition smooth for all the State Officers. There were several reasons for this merger; however the general operations will remain the same. The same Command team is leading the way, and taking this as an opportunity to look over policies, streamline things, and make interacting with the police more accessible. We have been working on ways to let people have more fun in character, and less time trying to figure out who to email or which form to fill out, and LEO are going to do the same while still maintaining the same core processes that make our police force run smoothly.

Recent Administrative Changes:

Recently we’ve made certain features of /creator more accessible in barber shops. We know a lot of people have been used to using /creator whenever, but if you run into a bug, mess up your character on creation, or have some other reason you need to use the creator tool, please open a ticket for approval.

After reviewing some suggestions, we’ve extended the time for robberies to 30 minutes after the restart. This will allow everyone some breathing room to settle into roleplay before going straight to the action.

We’ve opened a community pulse poll here about shooting from cars as it does seem to be causing some issues within the crim/cop factions. Please note this is not a definite poll for a solution, but rather a poll to see where the community in general falls.

From the Development Team:

After putting in the roleplay, DOC has received crafting mechanics for certain items. Talk to a DOC guard to see about the craft shop!

Look for a clothing update sometime in Autumn! Cozy clothes incoming as it will be autumn themed. See this the first or second week in October. A new tattoo update was also released a few weeks ago.

Be ready for a Sandy overhaul, our mapping team is working on one with an ETA of the next month or so.

There have been some new minigames introduced recently, with more to come. FOIC where they are!

There is a new robbery mechanic being developed, looking to go into testing and config phase next week.

NDRP Government Faction Updates:

From Kyrie Sinclair, Department of Corrections

This is my first newsletter since becoming Warden, and I hope our news is good news to you. Prison has received some updates recently with the introduction of craft shop items. Previously this has been pure roleplay based, but we have a few that you can now craft and take with you! We also have a batch of transfer lifers who are already making the prison feel more alive. We are hiring in batches, so if you'd like to join in, put in an application!

Please remember that aggravating too many local inmates or guards will cause everyone in the area's game to crash, and can be unrealistic to just spam punch the locals. If you get into a fight with local guards or inmates, please roleplay it out with a reason why, etc, so we as DOC can help enhance the scene.

From the San Andreas Fire and Rescue Command

We’ve been working on several new updates and improvements for the community, and we’re excited to share what’s in the pipeline. Since our last newsletter, the development team has rolled out an update to hoses and fire - these are now tethered directly to firetrucks for a more realistic and immersive experience! 🚒

UPDATE TO STARTING FIRES: Getting a fire-arc is now much easier: If you are interested in playing an arson-character (or want to RP a business fire or such), please open a ticket and the admin+ team can help out!

Beyond that, we’re continuing to refine our training programs to make them more welcoming for newcomers. One project we’re currently exploring is reshaping the EMT role to be more approachable. Instead of requiring extensive medical knowledge right from the start, EMTs will focus on the essentials: providing basic care, assisting higher-ranking medics, and ensuring safe and timely ambulance transport.

Our goal is to make EMT a strong entry point into medical roleplay - getting new players involved quickly with hands-on responsibilities like driving the ambulance and helping with straightforward cases (such as burns or gunshot wounds). More advanced medical procedures will remain with further ranks, giving those who want to pursue deeper medical RP a clear and rewarding path to grow into.

Lastly, we'd like to remind the community that we are here to help aid and support their roleplay - but, that roleplay does go both directions. We encourage players to dabble in more advanced injuries, and if you have any questions feel free to ask in the /ooc chat, or reach out to the medic via DMs.

Thank you for your continued support to medical RP!

From Erin Murphy, San Andreas Department of Public Works

San Andreas Department of Public Works applications are currently open. If you're interested in joining the department we encourage you to reach out to the team IC with any questions and to get to know the team.

One thing you may not know about Public Works is that our team helps with event support in the form of quick props we can throw down or market stalls where your business can choose how you want to decorate a small space. Don't hesitate to reach out IC if you've got something going on that may need lights, chairs, etc.

For market stall requests, we ask that event planners to make sure you're reaching out to our team at least 7 days before your events so we can coordinate the setup and support with our team. You can find more information about Market Stalls here.

The Public Works team is here to support your roleplay and add to the stories your characters are telling. Our team prides itself on responding to all the calls we can when they come in via 211 and arriving well before an IRL tow truck would get to you. We appreciate our fellow community members having some patience while our operators are enroute to your calls and look forward to the interactions we get when we're on scene.

Community Questions

- Written by Tenforce with the help of her lovely Managers

Why do we acknowledge that developers are overworked and underpaid, but do not promote donation goals/strategies to get them at least somewhat paid for the work and additions staff and the NewDay community want added to the server? I feel most players on NewDay would be willing to put in a little bit of money towards an addition they would be excited to see in the server, and there are so many ways to implement this idea!

I understand yall don’t get paid, would yall be willing to take donations to make or buy more mechanical updates? I know myself and others would gladly be willing to put in money to make more happen.

We are not a monetized server, and were set up never to be that way. For better or worse, that has dictated our workflows and what we can reasonably demand from people. We don’t talk about money often, but NDRP runs 100% on donations. There are people who pay money actively to the server in order to have a product, say Gabz MLOs for example. Other than that, all money goes straight to server costs. Monetizing our server, either through application fees or in game bonuses right now is not feasible for many reasons.

A specific donation drive for development work might be very successful, but at the same time, we do not have enough recurring donations to pay for our total monthly costs. While we do have a good amount of rainy day fund covering this, we are still operating at a net loss. I would love to find a way to pay our devs for their work; but then it becomes that: work. I am now their boss and this is legal income I need to report, even piecemeal. I have been in discussions with UA on how to help our devs without getting put into muddy waters.

As far as mechanical updates, we have received donations to cover purchases of scripts or assets before. The issue of developer timetables remains the same though. I’ve purchased some scripts personally for the server and I am still waiting on them to be integrated. We would always check and make sure a dev is willing and ready to pick it up before we ask you to purchase - I don’t want our devs feeling like they cannot work on their personal projects simply because someone else paid for a script to be put in. We have been looking at purchasing more scripts, like you’ve seen with civilian activities such as darts and tennis. If you want to purchase something for the server, please open a ticket before you buy anything. We cannot use anything you’ve bought personally; there is a specific way you must donate to us so we can buy the asset.

Are there currently any plans or ongoing discussions to take more action against currently unnoticed toxicity within the server, by for example making the server rules less lenient?

I’ve found I don’t think our rules are that lenient, but our recent reflection was that we are sometimes overly lenient on enforcing them. We’ve begun to counter this by doing things like lowering the Warning Point threshold for newly whitelisted members, more actively spectating players in roleplay, and extending the time WPs stay on a player’s profile. Management is also looking at redoing our matrix to reweigh some rule break categories.

Are you willing to be more lenient to work with the crim community and try to solve stuff? That includes providing stuff to gangs/groups/mc who prove themselves. Fixing how the drug system work, making rolls something fun, having coke give bands like it used to, making low crim jobs give cash rather than rolls etc?

What does the future look like for crime?

As stated in some suggestion threads, there is a roll rework underway which aims to make things more RP forward, and as well a drug rework which will incorporate more cash. There's a side project that's a higher tier robbery in active development. We monitor how many custom drugs / gun runners there are and how well they are running, and rotate them out based on what staff has seen IC. I would be interested in making a crim feedback form for ideas, or you can make a suggestion thread.

Recently, there was a request of members of whitelisted roles for feedback on the judicial/legal system. What changes have or will be made in lieu of this form?

DOJ has been revamping their training with new legal players in mind. We’ve adjusted some warrant related issues to make LEORP a bit more forgiving and easier for folks to get raided. We have taken steps in some minor ways as well with adjusting what notaries are needed for as well as tweaked conflict rules to allow players who really like pounding their heads against the wall in court to play alts.

We’ve also been talking about instituting sentence ranges to adhere to our expectation of serious time for serious crime, but still allow for player control of how long they are going to be in prison for. OOC consent for extended sentencing has also been moved from DMs to our ticket system for better transparency.

The head of departments for all three legal factions have been in a general discussion over the feedback and from that, the above and more has been discussed to try and make the court system more accessible, but no less serious. We still want weighty crimes to have weighty consequences, but also understand there needs to be a balance between being serious and being pedantic.

Are there going to be new [housing] listings released before the end of the year?

Yes. Look for a wave before the holiday season. This wave luckily has a selection of homes from most areas around the state. As a note, Dynasty is no longer creating new homes. All future waves will be from homes cycled back into the economy. We are developing housing that should be attractive to players who want to decorate but maybe not own their own space. Stay tuned!

When will I get a second chance?

No appeal means no appeal, bud.
