Perma-Killing your own Character

It takes a big moment and a long storyline to perma a character. It is a decision no one will make lightly regardless of how much time you had with your character. We want to ensure you get the closing arc to your character that you want, so this guide is written to help you with the medical rp at the end of a character's lifetime.

The moment it happens:

When you ultimately make the decision to perma, you need to ensure its being communicated to LEOs/SAFR/Coroner on scene. You can do so with a simple /me flatines/no pulse/vitals drop. The on scene responders will try do everything they can ICly to resuscitate you, regardless of your decision to perma from the scene.

We need OOC consent from you as the player to confirm a death of a character. This ooc confirmation means you cannot go back from it, once it is confirmed with the player interacting with you. We do so using /ooc, we may do this on scene with LEOs/SAFR or when you reach Pillbox and time of death is called by SAMS/Zelig/SAFR. Please make sure to respond to the /ooc with a simple yes, this is all we need to continue.

When you are in the morgue, whoever is processing the death, needs to get some OOC and IC details to send to SAMS. These will be done through /mes or using /ooc. Things being asked will be; obvious injuries, ID check and finally we will need your discord username in order for SAMS to reach out about an autopsy. If you do not wish for SAMS staff to contact you through discord DMs, feel free to reply to this /ooc by saying you will create a support ticket to contact SAMS instead.

Most of the time, when the intake paperwork is done, whoever is present will you will give you some sort of message that you are able to log out. This can be a /ooc Thank you o7 or a verbal "Nurse Nancy will take it from here". This is a cue for you to log out (of the server or just the character). DO NOT DELETE YOUR CHARACTER, you will need to wait until after an autopsy is done. If you are 100% sure an autopsy is not needed for your character, but it was not said to you in /ooc at the time, it is always better to check OOCly with SAMS staff before deleting your character.

Scheduling an autopsy:

80% of deaths will be investigated by SAMS staff through the form of an autopsy. If you gave your discord, a member will reach out to you OOCly (through DMs or a medical support ticket) to check what times would be suitable for you to do the autopsy. You will always have an option to do an autopsy IC or OOC.

  • OOC Autopsy: SAMS Staff will share paperwork/questions with you to get all the necessary details to fulfill the autopsy paperwork
    • (This can be a preferred option if you are busy or do not feel comfortable returning for an IC autopsy, the choice is always on the player!)
    • If you are unsure how to answer something, please ask the SAMS member, we are happy to help navigate you to the answer you need
    • If you are ever uncomfortable with the questions/details you can ask to finish it later, we always want you to feel comfortable. Some SAMS staff love the gore-y details and we forget that others might not sometimes!
  • IC Autopsy: You schedule a time to log back into the server and do an autopsy in the morgue at PB
    • The scheduling will be done through discord DMs or in a ticket.
      • There is sometimes a small chance morgue staff are present at the time, if both parties are comfortable doing the autopsy there and then, this can be confirmed in /ooc
    • The autopsy details will be done all through /mes from the SAMS member with you replying to them as best you can
    • SAMS staff may verbalize the query to help you or simply to fill the silence!
    • If you do not know how to answer a /me feel free to ask for clarification in ooc chat or the SAMS member can reach out on discord again
Once the autopsy is complete, staff will often send you the finished report to make sure it is telling the story you wish to be told in regards to the death of your character. Feel free to ask for certain details to be added or expanded on, as long as its realistic for it to be found in an autopsy, we will always facilitate it!

After an autopsy:

Once the autopsy paperwork is all finished, what happens next is up to you. If your character had a next of kin or emergency contact, they can request IC for your characters body to be released to them for a funeral. If you know that is not rp you wish to return for or don't want to engage with, you can then delete your character.

If an funeral has been scheduled you can log back in and SAMS staff will give you somewhere to change the clothing to what a funeral home would put a body into. We will then hand the body to funerary services and they will take over the rp!

If your character had an empty MDT and no contacts, SAMS staff can try facilitate someone coming forward for the body, but we cannot force anyone to do a funeral, it is all upon the other party to initiate that roleplay with the funerary services. If you ever have questions about autopsy roleplay please open a support ticket!

Perma-Killing a Local Citizen

If you have killed a local for your serial killer or through other scenes, we require you to fill out an OOC form.

Oops, I murdered someone

This form collects some OOC and IC information surrounding the murder scene. It is expected that you have left scenes at the place of the murder, or that a roleplay scene already took place and you are OOCly giving details of the local that was killed in the process. Anything that you give to SAMS staff OOCly (such as your character and/or discord) is not going to be shared to anyone outside of the morgue without your consent. The information is just collected so that SAMS staff can reach out to you for further detail at a later date.

You have to give a cause of death and name to all local murders. The more information you give, the less SAMS staff will have to ask you for later on. For any homicide deaths of locals (EG: you killed them through whatever means), will require an autopsy just like player deaths. Since it was just a local who was killed and there is no body to transport, the autopsy is done OOCly. Please refer to the above "OOC Autopsy" information on how that process works.

You decide how much evidence is left with the body. SAMS staff will only need to gather and process information on the actual body, we do not deal with the scene surrounding it, that is for MCD and their lab techs.

This form is required to be filled out anytime your character kills a local (death of a local requires player's OOC consent). So once you submit this form, if MCD gather the evidence you may or may not face a murder charge later on.

If you are confused or need help with anything in regards to this, please open a support ticket.
