The Grove Street Families were the most famous set of The Families in the 1990s. They operated out of Grove Street and were in the greater Davis area, mainly in the south and west. The original gang disbanded after the 1990s due to infighting and pressure from the Ballas; their current whereabouts are unknown. The Grove Street set is regarded as the most famous set of all. Their former territory, Grove Street, is last known to have been overtaken by the Original Covenant set of the Ballas.
After the Grove Street Families disbanded in the 1990s, the Chamberlain Gangster Families were considered the most extensive set of The Families going into the 2010s, their set being the largest and most militarized. Their territory would be the entire Chamberlain Hills neighborhood, sometimes called "The Hills" or "Killer Hills". Members of CGF would commonly be found hanging around Crystal Heights and the Tahitian project buildings, as well as all along Forum Drive. However, in 2014, the gang slowly fell into obscurity due to repeated attempts to revive different sets of families throughout South Los Santos.
In 2021, the Chamberlain Gangster Families would have a short revival by a young shot caller named
Akira Black. For a short time, he was known to be the face of the Families. Unfortunately, Akira went missing sometime in 2022, so the Chamberlain Gangster Families fell back into the shadows and were considered non-existent.
In late 2023, “The Boss” formed the newest set of the Chamberlain Gangster Families. The Boss was an unknown OG from GSF in the 1990s who believed in a new southside. The Boss recruited two young bloods from Chamberlain Hills as his shot callers, knowing the younger generation needed young leaders. He recruited the two up-and-coming hustlers, expecting they would attempt to avoid bloodshed, unlike many of the newer sets within the southside. Their territory was the entire Chamberlain Hills neighborhood, as with the original sets.
This version of CGF thrived—until it didn’t. The blood-hungry Forum Drive Families pushed it into the shadows through violence and manipulation. Members pocketed their flags and continued operations from the shadows, without colors, not wanting to be associated with the set known as FDF. As with many sets that work solely through violence, FDF inevitably disappeared from Chamberlain Hills and the surrounding areas.
In 2025, although still working in the shadows, a revival was on the horizon with a focus on money first, beef second. The Boss trusted in his young leaders to reestablish the Chamberlain Hills Gangster Families and the South Side.
