Past:
Ryder DeFord was born on September 17, 1999, in a rough neighborhood where the sound of revving engines and police sirens was part of daily life. His father was a skilled mechanic with a checkered past, running a small but infamous auto shop that catered to underground racers and criminals alike. Ryder grew up surrounded by cars, learning how to fix, boost, and drive them long before he was legally allowed behind the wheel.
By the time Ryder hit his teenage years, he was running with a crew of car thieves and street racers. His natural talent with vehicles made him the go-to guy for any high-stakes job involving fast getaways. But things took a darker turn when Ryder was introduced to robbery. His crew began targeting high-end car dealerships, banks, and armored trucks, pulling off heists with precision and speed.
Despite his wild lifestyle, Ryder’s younger brother, Apollo, was his best friend. They were inseparable growing up, always pushing the limits of what they could get away with. From sneaking out at night to joyride in cars Ryder had stolen, to racing their dirt bikes through abandoned lots, the two shared a bond that went beyond family—they were partners in crime, literally. They’d spend hours in their father’s garage, tinkering with old cars and dreaming about taking over the streets together one day.
Ryder’s love for cars goes beyond their value in a heist. He has an obsession with stealing cars off the streets just for the thrill of driving them. Whether it’s a sports car or a classic muscle, Ryder would boost a vehicle, tear through the city at breakneck speeds, and ditch it without a second thought. This passion for joyriding has landed him in jail more than once, but the rush it gives him always pulls him back to the same reckless behavior.
When Ryder was 19, a robbery went south, resulting in the tragic death of Apollo, who had been tagging along as the getaway driver. Ryder had insisted on involving him in the job, a decision that would haunt him forever. His brother’s death wasn’t just the loss of family; it was the loss of his closest friend and partner. Ryder blames himself entirely for it, a burden he carries alone.
Shortly after that fateful job, Ryder was arrested during a sting operation. Betrayed by one of his crew members, he was sentenced to five years in prison. His time behind bars was brutal—surrounded by hardened criminals, Ryder had no choice but to toughen up, learning the ins and outs of survival in the prison system. He became colder, more calculating, and made connections with powerful criminals inside, further deepening his ties to the underworld.
Upon his release, Ryder returned to the streets with a sharper edge. The prison stint only enhanced his reputation, and now, more ruthless than ever, he's back to doing what he does best—driving, robbing, and running jobs that most wouldn't dare attempt. But even with his freedom, Ryder continues to steal cars off the streets for joyrides, still chasing that fleeting high that only being behind the wheel can give him, even if it means getting caught again. No matter how fast he drives, though, he can’t outrun the guilt he feels for the loss of his brother, his best friend.
