Tony was born and raised in Broker, Liberty City in a loving family composed of his mother (Madiana), father (Alphonzo), himself and his brother (Bobby). His parents came from Sicily in Italy in the late 1930’s. His father Alphonzo was a hard worker, respected within the community. Over time, to make a long story short, his reputation followed and made him a man of true respect and most of all, feared. The Moretti Famiglia saw its first days in the early 1950’s and the rest is history.
Tony was born first, and Bobby came 10 years later. So Tony was always a big influence on Bobby and especially always there for him regardless of that age gap. Growing up was sometimes too easy for them. The Moretti name carried a lot of weight and a lot of respect. So they generally did good. Tony always had an attitude and a sense of leadership, like his father. It was easy to see what kind of man Tony would become. As a teen, Tony was a party animal. He knew how to enjoy life but reality quickly sets in when he’s told by his father, that one day, this will all be his. It took a while to let that sink in. Nonetheless, Tony continued to be as he always had been, with that at the back of his mind.
In his mid 20’s, Tony started driving a Taxi and made it his primary work. This was great for him and he loved it. No other reason why, he just did. Seeing as Tony was used to driving the streets of Liberty City, this job got him a special call one day. Age 28, Tony is finally officially recruited by The Moretti Famiglia. He became the driver, driving his father around and others at times. His father always tried to subtly push Tony to the business. But Tony never seemed sure about it. This is also the period where he lost his mother to a heart attack, this destroyed the family for some time.
Over the years, Tony worked his ass off for the Taxi Company and of course, his father. His brother Bobby even ended up being recruited as an official Soldato at the age of 19. Tony never wanted to leave the taxi Company as he seemed to enjoy that more than the work for his father. And then he married his high school sweetheart, Maria. They were in love and the only person able to keep Tony down to earth. She, however, never liked that Tony was involved in his father’s affairs and this was understandable. Tony sympathized with that opinion and tried his best to stay away from it, telling her “I’m only driving them, that’s it!” but we all know this is a lie, Tony was much more involved than he wanted to be. When he was in his 30’s, they had a child,
Caterina Moretti. She is the pride of Tony’s life. Everything to him. This made Tony become more “soft” for a period of time. It even convinced him that he didn’t want to be part of his father’s business but at this point, there was no easy way out. He remains a driver for his father all while keeping his Taxi job.
And then, Maria died of Breast Cancer. Caterina was 20 and Tony was 50 by this time. It was hard on her but she was unsurprisingly able to find strength and she quickly took the mantle of her mother in the house and she even became the confidante for Tony to talk to. Tony was depressed for a while… and then angry again. The “soft” period was over. Everyone noticed it. He was more ruthless from this point on. He started getting more involved with his father’s conversations which in turn pleased his father as he always wanted Tony to be the one to take over the mantle someday.
When he was 55, Tony & Bobby drove their father to a meeting. Tony waited outside while Bobby and a few others escorted Alphonzo inside for the meeting at the restaurant. An attack happened inside while they waited but luckily Alphonzo stepped out of the restaurant, safe and sound. They appeared to have won until a car pulled up and shot up the front and killed Alphonzo, the Don, and his brother Bobby. Tony was spared from this fate as he could only hide from this by ducking in his car and leaving the scene right after the shooters left.
This was an attack from the Fiore Family setup by Alphonzo’s very own Consigliere (Adviser). Scum of the earth pieces of shit they were and desperate to take the Moretti Glory away. In the process, another warehouse got hit and more Moretti Famiglia were killed at the same time. They managed to take down the entire, or most of, The Morettis. Needless to say, Tony was furious and upset at this point as he just lost his brother and father and a lot of family friends. The glory days were over. But Tony still felt like something was off with it all.
Some of the remaining survivors of the attack were looking to Tony for advice on what to do next and if he was going to take over the mantle seeing as he is the last of the Moretti bloodline along with Caterina. She didn’t like the idea as she thought, if Fiore were to even get word of Tony taking the mantle, it would be certain death. Cat was on edge, nervous, and paranoid at times because of these events. And nobody could blame her for it. At any moment, someone could bust through that door and make sure there is no more Moretti Famiglia. So Tony listened to his daughter as she proposed they move away to forget it all, and this way the Fiores would know for sure that there was no chance of the Morettis operating in Liberty again.
They planned for a couple of weeks, very last notice and they packed up and left for Los Santos. With very little cash they have left, they start a new and fresh life in the sunny state of San Andreas.
