This month marks one year since UnironicallyAverage and myself officially took over ownership of NewDay. We've dealt with so much - the quality of roleplay issues that were plaguing us (and to an extent we are still addressing) as well as things like Cfx and Tebex to ensure the server can run as smoothly as possible and be the roleplay environment that we and the Management team envision. We hope that the last 12 months have been an upward trend in player satisfaction - we have gradually seen player numbers stabilize and even increase. We have pushed our developers to have a new energy and passion to keep content coming out that keeps the server fresh while also maintaining the NewDay feel.

We'd like to thank everyone for their support and their trust in us to keep this a thriving FiveM community!

From NewDay Management:

We all put a lot into our characters - the sense of accomplishment that comes from putting in a lot of work is a great feeling. On the opposite side of the coin, losing something that the character holds dear can cause very strong feelings of disappointment and anger. One thing I want everyone to remember as you play out your characters -things happen to them both good and bad, and that's ultimately all in the game. Whether you get robbed of a special collectible, lose a friend to a vicious rumor, or get fired from a job - at the end of the day your story will continue; it's all about how you move forward from there. For most people playing GTARP; your character is the main character of the story you engage in - but looking at the community as a whole - we are all equal players and sometimes it's hard to remember that. You may be just as much of a character in someone else's story as they are in yours.

One of the most important things we have been trying to encourage within the playerbase is to remember to keep things In Character. We have had a lot of feedback over the years that Management have gotten involved in certain aspects of roleplay, which has often left a sour taste in players' mouths. There may be times when we will be brought in to look at certain situations but we want to we want to ensure that we don't involve ourselves in matters that can, and should, be handled IC. The times that we step in as Management are heavily weighed against letting things roll as they are in game - you'll mostly see Management involved with only higher level department changes and things that affect large groups of people or the server overall.

Recent Administrative Changes:

Hello everyone! The administration team has a couple of updates and general reminders for the community. As always, we appreciate the community's awareness and understanding of the rules and guidelines that ensure a fair play space for all.

Videos & Player Reports: We'd like to remind the community that video evidence is highly needed when handling both player reports, and tickets regarding player activity. There is always three sides to a story, and we require video evidence when possible to ensure accurate verdicts are being passed down when reviewing situations. We'd also like to thank the community for its patience on reviewing player reports - we are working to get the report queue brought down. As a note, PRs are reviewed in the order they are received. Some PRs take longer than others due to the complicated nature of some scenarios, and we do not allow those conflicted or involved in the reports to participate in the review - at times this means we don't have as many eyes on it as normal.

Crime Near Restarts: Since the start of the year, we've noticed an uptick in players committing crime near the server restarts (2am/2pm EST). As a reminder, players cannot start any crime 15 minutes before a restart or directly after a restart completes. Heists, thefts or burglaries must wait 30 minutes after a restart completes. For more information, see the Rules & Guidelines.

Job Abuse/Paycheck Farming: We've seen an uptick in job abuse & paycheck farming - players should not be clocked into a business they are not actively contributing to. We ask players to use their best judgment when clocked into a business, and off their registered premises. Excessive abuse of the system can result in business UBI being removed. If you have questions, please open a ticket.

A.I Misuse: We all know Artificial Intelligence is here to stay. The admin team would like to remind players of our AI guidelines and expectations when it comes to AI usage to ensure a fair and realistic environment remains maintained.

OOC (Out-Of-Character Chat) Misuse: Over the past few weeks, we've noticed a lot of /OOC use. We'd like to remind the community that OOC should only be used in emergencies or during roleplay that requires OOC conversations. There should not be general conversations being had in the OOC chat. Thank you!

From the Development Team:

We're glad to see people enjoying our latest projects released - from the big to clothing updates and fishing overhauls to the smaller projects such as expansion of our furniture catalog, new emotes, and the consistent trickle new vehicles into the server.

We'd like to remind people that developer apps are open - we are always looking for developers interesting in contributing to NewDay. We are especially interested in experienced mapping and code devs. If you are interested or knows someone who is, go ahead and fill out an application here.

As you all know our Clothing Rehaul finally hit the live server which was the result of a 5-6 month effort. Our team is currently tracking all issues that are being reported, and we are working on fixes for the most important things such as;
  • Quality issues
  • Texture issues
  • Model issues
We are aware there are a lot of complaints with ‘holes’ in clothing and this is what we will say about it;Clothing for FiveM is never designed with emotes and animations in mind. We do not expect you to run around with your arms in the air or a constant surrender emote, which is why on some items youll find that it will have ‘holes’ using said emotes. As much as we would love to avoid that for every item that is simply not possible. We also cannot make unlimited arm options. Any issues with the clothing update can be reported in the dedicated clothing bug report thread.

We also have a personal message from one of our clothing developers! From @Ekaterina Morozova :

Hey everyone! I am one of the new clothing devs for the server, and as a longtime player who is very passionate about fashion, it's been an absolute blast for me to work on the clothing update. It's something I always wished I could do back when I was just playing on NDRP. It truly warms my heart to see everyone putting together all the new cool outfits for their characters, experiment with different pieces, and find their new favourite items in the updated catalogue. Thank you all so much for being so supportive and for loving the clothing team's work. I hope to keep delivering new stuff bit by bit, and continuing to fix some of the stuff that isn't quite perfect yet.

NDRP Government Faction Updates:

From Willow Clarkson, Chief Justive of the San Andreas Judiciary

I'm happy to have been a part of the Judiciary for as long as I have here. It's been a lot of fun both in character and out of character and I hope to keep that trend going.

My goal overall is to make court RP as approachable and balanced as possible for the server and encourage more to join in the legal RP no matter what their role may be. I know there will be rulings that some won't like or understand, that's only natural as we aren't real judges or lawyers and sometimes mistakes happen both on an IC and OOC level. I just hope everyone can keep it all IC and stay positive and know that there are checks and balances in place to make sure no ruling ever harms the overall health of our lovely city.

Some of these checks and balances are two lovely Federal Judges to assist us with appeals and judicial reviews. Others come in the form of encouraging these appeals to take place in the first place, since they are the absolute best way to fight any issues that come up during trial or rulings. We judges actually very much enjoy the RP of appeals and are happy to see them pop onto our desk.

With that all said, I look forward to seeing what fun court cases you have to bring to the table!

From Viv Chopper, San Andreas Parks Department

The last couple of months within the San Andreas Parks Department have been busy, and I wanted to share a few updates on what we've been working on behind the scenes. Around a month ago, we welcomed in a new round of Parks Employees, with a handful currently towards the end of their training. It's been great seeing newer members already getting involved with the community through events and interactions while on shift.

One of the highlights of this hiring round has been seeing existing members step up to help newer employees settle in. Whether it's helping with training, answering questions or just making people feel welcome, that support system has always been one of the strongest parts of SAPD. To everybody who has helped support our newer employees this round, whether by supporting them internally or by attending and supporting the events they’ve hosted; thank you!

At the same time, our newest round of Rangers have been with us for around three and a half months. It's been great watching them grow into their roles and become familiar faces within the community. As we move into June, we'll be beginning to prepare for the next Ranger hiring round and start reviewing applications again soon. If you're interested and haven't already, please put in an application with Amanda at the Ranger Station in Paleto!

Outside of recruitment, we're also looking to put focus into community events moving forward. With June being Pride Month, the Parks Department remains proud allies of the LGBTQ+ community, and we're currently planning a Pride-themed event for the community to come together and enjoy. More details will be shared once plans are finalised.

As always, thank you to everybody who continues supporting the San Andreas Parks Department. Whether you're a member of SAPD, someone who regularly interacts with us, or someone interested in joining in the future, we genuinely appreciate the support and are excited for everything still to come over the next few months.

Oh, also... Owl Scouts anyone? soontm

From Chris Jackson, San Andrea Flight Authority

The San Andreas Flight Authority has been working with the state representatives to update the outdated portions of the flight regulations. We have also been working on training up more check pilots and ground crew to have more coverage for your aviation rp needs. We have a couple new trainers and managers here to help in those regards.

If you guys have something you want to do event wise or fun RP story wise and want to use the airports or want to get aircraft involved feel free to reach out to us. We love helping out with that stuff.

As always we are always looking for more people to get into SAFA and aviation RP, so if you are interested feel free to reach out or apply! Like many others we now have an IC way of applying for work at SAFA. The NPC that handles applications resides in the Jack Callow Hangar at LSIA next to the aircraft rental guy.

From LEO High Command, San Andreas State Police

Applications to join the San Andreas State Police remain open. If you are interested in trying something different or experiencing the law enforcement side of roleplay here in NewDay, we encourage you to apply! They have not been moved in character and are still located here on the forums. Please make sure you have read the requirements and answer each question thoroughly before submitting your application! If for whatever reason you need to edit your application after it has been submitted, please open a ticket in the NDRP Discord and ask to speak with someone about it.

Our Community Outreach Program hosted a car wash event last month and wants to say thank you to everyone who attended! We hope you had a good time and that we will see you at our future events!

We have recently hired on a new batch of cadets, so be on the lookout for them over the coming weeks!

Commissioner Theresa Indigo has finally entered her well-deserved retirement and is happily working on her family farm. We wish her the best and are thankful for the time she dedicated to building up the department. Thank you to everyone who continues to support and interact with our department on a day-to-day basis!

From SAFR High Command, San Andreas Fire Rescue

Fire Rescue Applications are currently closed, but we plan to reopen them in late July or early August - once our current round of trainees completes the program.

We’d also like to remind the community that we are here to support your roleplay, and help tell your characters story. We encourage folks to ask us questions about medRP - If you ever have questions about the RP, feel free to pop in a /ooc message!

Community Questions

- Written by Tenforce with the help of her lovely Managers
If you’d like to add your question for the next newsletter, you can access it here. While your forum account will be noted for tracking and follow up opportunities, your questions will be presented anonymously as below.

I've really enjoyed seeing how the paths of roleplay have gone with the new management team's position that they prefer not to intervene in storylines unless absolutely necessary. It's resulted in high-stakes, slow-burn roleplay with interesting opportunities and real challenges for many characters to overcome, mine included. That said - is there anything you'd like people to keep in mind that you think would help the community build a positive spiral of story, interactions, etc. for the community?

This is a great question.

Stop taking things OOC. Many times stories get 'ruined' from what I have seen in the community, it's because so and so heard this or that OOC. I'm not talking telling someone "Hey, this is spicy, excited to see where it goes" but rather people watching other peoples' streams when they are involved in a story with them, discussing nitty gritty details or worse, ranting to people about something you might be unhappy with, which whether you think it will or not, gets around the community. Remember we are all playing characters and are all here to develop the world we play in. Sometimes that means your character will have to take a fall, a setback, or even be the victim of a lie or incorrect (in character) rumors or information! Just because a player's character might be out to get yours, does not mean the player dislikes you or wants to see you suffer personally. Probably 90% of the tickets we've handled as an Admin+ team about dissatisfaction with roleplay going on ends up being they saw or heard something OOC and took it personally.

That being said, if you need to clarify, vent, or raise concerns about things, don't fret about opening a ticket or asking for a mediation with players just to ensure everything is fine OOC. We all get invested in our characters as many of us put a lot of effort into developing them; making sure everyone is generally happy with the RP is fine. Just remember if you are getting frustrated about something take a step back, touch some grass, and remember we are all in this together. Bring each other up and don't focus on what you can gain from every interaction.

The second biggest point I think helps the community foster good interactions is the classic improv technique of "Yes, and...". Your character doesn't have to be into every idea and activity that is brought to you, but I'm sure they may know someone who will. "Yes, and..." can look like you going along with the scenario put in front of you, but it can also be as simple as:

"Hey, I'm not really into that, but that sounds like something my friend would like. Let me call them real quick."
"I think you can pull this off if you try these ideas..."
"Give me your number and keep me updated, if you pull this off I'd be glad to go next time!"

I'd really like to see an effort to improve our social media presence and advertising more broadly, especially based on community efforts and contributions. Are there any plans to encourage more players to post about the community, or to use official channels to more regularly highlight screenshots, clips, stories, and more? It would be cool to see a (staff-created) thread encouraging people to share ideas for promotion, as well as collaborative opportunities and/or contests for creating / submitting media to help promote the community.

I want to see more social media use too. We were on the Twitter train for a while there and I can tell a difference. We also had hype videos that generated a lot of interest. Unfortunately as we had people drop off our media team, it fell a bit to the wayside with all my other responsibilities. That being said, this has spurred a conversation with my managers and look for something to be coming out soon about media team and how to join for those interested.

The whole cooldown gap between robberies, or however long it currently is, feels pretty frustrating on both the crim and cop side. From the crim perspective, people spend time getting everything organised just to realise they can’t actually do anything yet because of the timer. On the cop side, especially during lower PD numbers, it can end up leaving officers with not much to do and the server feeling slow overall. Are there currently any plans to adjust robbery cooldowns or address low cop numbers in general?

The cooldown was needed, and LEOC specifically requested something to deal with low PD numbers because of the commonly named "heist hour". People were definitely not liking clocking in to back to back heists. We had tracked this for a while and almost every time there were multiple heist started close together, we lost over 75% of on duty LEO right after. Most were unintentionally being triggered too often, but we also came up with groups that had heists on timers and would spam as many as possible at the same exact time every day. We needed another variable to encourage people to go roleplay and not just stand in their circles until "it was time" - which unfortunately still happens. We encourage criminals to try new things, or come up with non-mechanical crime and hijinks to get up to, as this will feed positively into the LEO stuff stated below.

As for the LEO side, Command encourages you to go answer other calls - and I can attest as a petty criminal that LEO in general will not respond to anything but a "red ping". Some of the best roleplay can come from these calls and it will actually probably keep people from getting bored with the same "jump into supercar" meta that is asked about below. LEO roleplay is what you make it, and just sticking around for half an hour and doing traffic stops, community outreach, and petty crime calls has been shown through monitoring data to build that momentum to have more cops on duty, which also helps address the numbers problem listed below.

Do you have any current plans to address the low numbers within PD at the minute? Regardless of the cadet class that’s in now, the numbers and atmosphere has been low for a while. This needs to be addressed

Oh man, if we had a solution for that there would be 20+ cops on duty every day. However, this is something we are always in touch with LEOC - for instance the heist timer was specifically put in to help with number issues, especially in NA time. I would say if you know someone who used to work and now does not because of something going on in the server, it's best to communicate that with your Command so they can bring it to us.

We are most likely going to send out a feedback form to LEO to try and get some of these reasons from people so we can better look at specific solutions. Summer is also a factor right at the moment - historically our dips have been the peak of summer and the winter holiday seasons.

With regards to players being a part of groups (specifically crime groups in this question) why is there no limit on how many groups an individual can be in across. I've been in the community for a number of years now and it still makes no sense to me, having met players with characters in 3 or more gangs at the same time. In my 7 years of being in RP I think New Day is the only community to allow this in the 6+ community's I am in/have been in. I feel allowing players to have characters in several criminal groups at the same times waters down the meaning of being in a group, that you are supposed to be dedicated to on the surface. What is managements stance on this and is there a reason this is allowed that I'm perhaps missing?

We've toyed with this, there is a question of how to enforce this with the amount of Admins that we have, and the fact that if we made this a rule and waited for reports, it would be report city when you're losing a war and we already dislike that a lot. However, this is something I can open up a discussion with the Administration team for sure and see where we are at with the idea. No one likes someone who only comes onto the server to shoot, and hops around in order to do just that, or groups that create alternate gangs just to cause trouble with no story. This is not necessarily a problem with multiple gangs serverwide, but a problem with those individuals. If you want to try both MC culture as well as Southside culture, and are not bringing LQRP when you do it, who are we to restrict this?

I do seem to missing something though - I've looked through several other servers and cannot find similar rules. The closest I've found was that you cannot have multiple characters in the same circle of friends or group. I would love if you can open a ticket to show me!

When are cops going to get access to resources to deal with the increasing rate of criminals jumping into supercars? We have interceptors, and obviously the SOP's are there to be fair, but the reaction speed of which people can respond to these types of events are too long and often result in the chase ending?

Please don't blatantly copy and paste questions repeatedly - all of them will get posted and addressed and giving these to your friends to not even change the wording clogs the form and makes it difficult to see which are genuine questions and which people are just trying to get everyone to pile on about a certain topic.

That being said, I've thrown the idea out for PD to brainstorm. Obviously one solution might be loosening up the restrictions on Interceptors, but then once you get an interceptor at every chase, this will actually just worsen the meta. We can float ideas like variable car seizures based on the type of car used, or something similar to discourage people from overly using just one type of car. We can also look at more solutions such as relaxing restrictions on when to seize and destroy people using the same supercars over and over, but this would be after looking at data for how often these happen compared to other car use, etc.

When will the SASP get the rest of the PD clothes updated that still only have LSPD.BCSO.SASP textures and or even get some new clothes.

We understand that there are some clothes still left from the merger - the good news is a few months ago we set a dev specifically for LEO clothing. They've been working diligently on retexturing the current mismatched pieces of clothing. So now that the civilian clothing is mostly out of the way, I am happy to say that this update will be Soon (tm).

Will there ever be a thought on reversing locals to how they used to be? Racing is primarily the main thing keeping me around the community and its not really enjoyable anymore with constant crazy locals popping thru walls

I believe I addressed this in the last newsletter. We have no intention of reducing the local variety or population numbers. I have been on a few group rides with our MCs and I do understand the concerns, but I have found slowing down helps a lot, as well as picking your tracks and terrain carefully. We know a lot of the issues with locals popping up is due to players in close proximity with different settings for local density. Developers are always looking for ways to mitigate this and improve the magical flying cars, but ultimately we are happy with a higher variety and amount of local cars.

I know a lot of things are done in a FOIC situation. But as far as jobs go, is there anyway a percentage display could be implemented towards the next level of what the job may be? For example; With trucking, mining, trawling, and drug dealing (I believe) you don't really know how far you need to go to move on. Not recommending there should be a set number. By now, everyone knows how many fish you need to do to be able to deep sea fish. But if somehow you don't, you would just constantly fish until it became available. I get not wanting to take away from the IC aspect of it, just sometimes it's quite the grind. If there was a percentage of how close you are to the next step, it might help people continue working towards those jobs as opposed to giving up short of a goal.

The short answer is no - we feel this only incentivizes a grinding mindset that we don't want to encourage. While I understand the drive to see your progress in a bar or see your 'reputation', we try to do this in a way that doesn't look like you are doing something just to get to the next level. Yes, deep sea fishing may be your jam and may have that pay bump you're looking for - but ultimately you are doing a job that your character would be interested in investing time into and that gets you a little extra money along the way. If your goal is to get to deep sea or trawling for example, then enjoy the journey - don't fixate on the target. It will come in time!
