Those comments make no change to what I said, whether they're working on what they want to or not is completely irrelevant, they (in my opinion) would be wasting their resources working on this.

I've been a dev for many large projects, since long before fivem existed. I recently stopped working on a project for fivem that had 500,000+ unique players. And yes, I agree I don't know the nuances for working on New Day projects but I know a thing or two about development and community expectations.

The poll is a good thing, I'm glad this discussion is being had and I've not once shown any disrespect to that process. I was giving *my* opinion about why I think this issue isn't a conducive use of time, is that not the point of this thread?
Like I said earlier people are entitled to their opinions, and that is great that you have worked in this space and others. My comments about people trying to speak on behalf of our team were not only directed at you. Every space, community, project, etc is going to come with it's own set of challenges and not every one thing is going to be 100% exactly the same. What might have worked elsewhere for you, might not work here or for the direction this team wants to take this community. Additionally we have our own unique set of challenges that we have to deal with that is not always obvious unless you are looking for them, or not something we blast out publicly for obvious reasons.

I mean the change doesn't really NEED to be physical cash, a G menu option, that can only work when cuffed/restrained/down, is just as good, especially if people are worried about physical items presenting issues. Theres also an example that needs to be made by the rest of us to do better Crime roleplay and do better in GIVING roleplay to others.

In the meanwhile though, I think when you do the G-Menu -> Rob mechanic, it should absolutely display the amount of cash someone has on them, or at the very least there should be a separate function for it like the check radio one.
+ 1. I remember when I had a character who was a Ranger, whenever I used the search mechanic on someone the amount of cash they had would pop up in the top right. This would be nice to have as a crim.

I'd also be down for a g-menu addition to display cash for the "Rob Player" mechanic. It reminds the crims doing the robbing that there's cash to be had, but keeps the common knowledge of cash being in the state it is. Doing so will keep the spike in low-quality robberies low, I think.

I remember there was a time once where a vehicle developer here was discussing vehicle handling and cited "suspension of disbelief" when talking about the size of rear tires vs. the amount of grip a vehicle has in the rear when torque is applied. Sometimes balance and diversity of RP should be considered more over pure realism, and I think the very same practice of "suspension of disbelief" can be applied in this case.

To address certain points about robberies, I don't think anyone is speaking up to reduce robberies. I think this point is being raised because it'll spike low-quality robberies. And if a pop-up with the cash amount for the "Rob Player" mechanic can be added, that'd be huge without shifting too much.

And if we do do physical cash, lockable gloveboxes would be helpful for cash holders and fun for those committing robberies. Forces people to think on their feet.

I’ve often heard people mention the amount of money they have in their pockets; recently, someone told me they had 40k, and the idea of being able to take that is pretty wild.

From my perspective, I’m not one to rob people—I don’t think I’ve ever done that in NewDay during the few years I’ve played. It’s just not who I am. However, it does make sense to have money in your pocket realistically; everything has its pros and cons. I see that people are complaining about robberies, which is understandable, but there could be a middle ground through rules about pocket-wiping. For example, if a certain amount of money is reached, it might be better to set limits.

I know not all people are affiliated either, but you get robbed? Figure out who, and get it back everyone has friends even if not affiliated. On another side note, I think the economy is pretty great at the moment, and I don't see it as a super grind to get that money back dependent on the amount.

The same goes for the "farm" talk. It could help weed out the bad apples and bring more dedicated role-players closer to the community.

One concern I have is the weight of the money—ideally, it should remain at zero.

Overall, I support the change.
As a person who carries 20k plus usually on him at all times I know I accept the risk of being robbed of it when I carry it.

Would be cool to have a physical item I could stash away without having to juggle suit cases etc. Lots of immersive potential for deals and other money related scenarios. I'd say the positives outweigh the negatives. I can already steal your cash, will it cause a spike in random robberies? Likely but who cares, be conscious of it and don't carry huge stacks of cash. I've never robbed anyone of money in server in 3 years, but it also has never happened to me, nor would it, because I maintain my character being conscious of what he carries.

I really want to see this change happen, if your vote is a no simply based on a concern for random robberies that can and already occur, you're not really rp focused on the topic. This would be a good change.

When I first heard about this idea, I was excited. The opportunities that MCD could seize hidden cash and other potential creative ways to use it would be great for the server. But after thinking about it for some time I fear the few shitlords will ruin it for all of us.

I’m definitely in favor of the roleplay that comes from being robbed, and I've long wished that thieves would target cash more often. I remember one of my favorite moments being robbed was when thieves came into my business and screamed, “GIVE ME ALL YOUR MONEY!” It felt realistic, I played I was giving them money from the register (which was actually from my pockets), they actually acted out the scene so well and there was a lot of back and forth, they played it as if ooc they were not worried about getting caught, and they had me tied up in a back room afterwards. The interaction had depth and led to some great further roleplay.

Given the current state of the server and the behavior of newer players who cause ongoing issues with FailRP and low-quality interactions, I’m concerned this change could exacerbate the problems that many of us veterans have been privately discussing for a while now.

Additionally, I worry about the potential impact on the server’s economy as shitlords will find a way to duplicate it. Then the people who will stash money for their other characters. I was a big fan of the casino when it used chips because it created more roleplay opportunities. Unfortunately, due to abuses, we lost that feature.

While having money directly on your person would be beneficial for immersive robbery roleplay, and would create creative ways to store/give/etc, I lack confidence in a portion of the current community to use this feature with roleplay in mind. I fear that it would soon be abused and then removed.

Robbing people of cash on their person should be a chance to roleplay with the victim rather than an opportunity for those who don't respect the server’s standards to use it as a lootbox or worse exploit. If we make it easier for these types of roleplayers to thrive, we risk driving away the dedicated roleplayers who have kept this server alive. Shitlords will always find a way to cheat the system.

I am conflicted because I see the pros of it outside just robbing people and I would love this feature even if people primarily use it for robbing. But at the same time robbing someone of their cash is available and it currently forces people to have a smidge above bare minimum dialogue. This would give shitlords an excuse to scream the ole, “hands or die, hands or die”, rummage, run.

PS. I think the G-Wheel option showing money on a person is a great idea.

I'm not one to leave responses on a forum (usually just a lurker) but I am completely astonished by some of these responses as to why having cash be an In game inventory item being a "bad idea"

First and foremost, if you're worried about being spam robbed maliciously, the ticket option exists in the discord for that reason and I'm 99% sure someone from the staff team will resolve your issue and make things right.

Secondly I'm seeing the argument that "I hold $40k+ on me from time to time" and that argument right there out right sounds like there's a different "issue" in the server that needs to be addressed, and in my personal opinion that would be the lack of debit cards and the abundance of having to use cash for transactions. I've played in several servers that have a cash inventory item and have never once seen myself needing to carry anything more thank $2k on me unless making illegal transactions.

I truly think that adding cash to wallets is a great idea as its such a fail rp and immersion break to hear people holding insane amounts of money on them. Sure issues can arise but I'm more than confident the dev team and staff team can nip those in the butt

I wouldn't mind cash as an inventory item if there was alternative DISCREET ways to transfer money like irl. Unless you're spending less than $100 cash on something irl, people are asking for prepaid gift/credit cards, crypto, and other types of wire transfers. I feel that the current system is fine the way it is. I do think having the cash amount displayed like in police searches would be a nice alternative. Without safer means to transport money, I really don't like this idea personally. I understand the realism of having physical cash but without the realism of alternative options, I'll have to vote no.

I am personally against adding any further time to developing cash for the server. It is 2024 and for some reason I have to pay cash at the gas pump for my gas. Which I am confused why the gas pump would have a bill acceptor. I would personally like to see time put into making debit cards / allowing people to pay with their bank account at more places considering it's 2024 and we're RPing in the lore equivalent to LA.

I don't agree with the above comments about how having physical cash will lead to more robberies or low quality RP, and even if it did, as usual we as a community should be dealing with those situations individually and not base additions around the idea that it might lead to people either abusing it or providing low tier RP.

I don't know if it's just because I live in a bum ass town but every gas station here accepts cash. But primarily everyone uses cards.... Even if they won't ever take mine at the machine. 😭 I always have to walk into the station. I also worked at a gas station as a cashier, and a surprisingly high amount of people were paying with cash instead of card.

Debit cards might be interesting. I'm still + 1 for adding cash, but I don't feel particularly strongly about it either way.

Just as a reminder.

Any current features, ie; having to use Cash for pumping gas, at 24/7's etc.. Isn't really a factor within this poll itself.

If it's a change you want to see of where cash/bank can be utilized. I'd recommend putting it in as a suggestion.

The poll itself is to gauge if people would like the cash to be a physical item.. or to be something in thin air.

Other mechanics can be discussed down the road or suggested through the proper channels.

So why put it to a vote and see what the community had to say if you were just going to push it through any ways regardless of what was said. Here is my two cents on this. As a crim i never walk around with more then a couple of 100$ in my pocket regardless my vote no was for those who are going to be farmed for there cash in robberies, (not saying im going to be doing this cuz my crim dose not rob people them selfs) But for those who do, they are going to frequent areas such as the band spots banks atms, whats to stop them from hitting all these people all at once consistently. Yes let me go take out 20k for a car upgrade from a bank 10ft from the bank car rolls up 4 people hop out hands or die. and continue driving away get hit with a nvl pr and points or ban. If im free to say what i have to say this is it, with putting physical cash into peoples pockets they are going to be treated like loot bags regardless of who are if you run with some one or not. If this is not apporpiate for the topic please remove i dont mind.

I don't think anyone here has said that at all? It was recommended to suggest places that could allow debit as an additional payment within the suggestions forum, not here.

Hi all,

As we reach the readiness of this feature, we wanted to poll the community on if it is something that the community is in favor of moving forward with. This poll will go for 1 week from today and we will proceed with the result from that. So am i reading this incorrectly then? The wording of this seems to me to read as we are going to poll the community but we have the feature ready and ready to roll out?

Yes, the feature is almost ready. Whether we implemented it or not was the intention of this poll.

A couple of questions:
  • With cash being an item, would it be one of the things that gets removed when you go to prison? If so, prisoners would not be able to use the payphones in the prison.
  • Would givecash still work if the cash is in a wallet?
these points for sure and also, not making it super heavy!! otherwise I would LOVE cash to be an item!

I've been in multiple Servers with cash as items and they seemed to work perfectly fine , but i feel the possibility of people camping job sites could be an issue as i know sometimes people sit at band spots
